French Athletes Prepare for Paris 2024 at State-of-the-Art Training Facility

Put a maximum of assets on the side of the French athletes so that they perform during their Games at home… The high performance center of the National Sports Agency, managed until the Games by Claude Onesta (Yann Cucherat will be proposed by the Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra to take over), saw big for the Paris Olympics. The 550 athletes will benefit from an exceptional place, a sort of “Blues locker room”, to train, interact with their coaches and, if necessary, psychologists.

Located a few hectometers from the perimeter of the Olympic village, the Marcel Cachin high school in Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) will be transformed, during the Olympic Games, into a performance center. The agreement was signed this Friday, December 1, between the Ministry of Sports, the ANS and the Île-de-France region.

The opportunity for its president, Valérie Pécresse, to announce that the high school, renovated a few years ago as part of a vast plan, will become “the high school for sports professions”, a legacy of the Olympic Games. Next summer, French athletes will take over the place. The ANS will take over the keys in mid-July, just after the baccalaureate exams, and will only have a handful of days to transform the high school into a “huge locker room”.

While Insep, in the heart of the Bois de Vincennes, will be exclusively reserved for French teams, from July 8 to September 8, thus becoming a base camp of choice, the Maison de la performance will constitute a real bubble for the Blues. “It’s a unique tool, dedicated to the French team, which will make the difference during the Games,” believes Yann Cucherat, coordinator of the “Win in France” system. We will be in the immediate vicinity of the village and we are really proud to be able to offer this incredible tool, in the service of performance. »

“The federations will be able to organize their briefings there, do video analyses…”

An envelope of 4.5 million euros will be devoted to this “Blues locker room”, a “meeting room”, between the accredited (who have access to the village) and the non-accredited, which will make it possible to expand the staff . The high school will be transformed. Training areas — tatami mats (the tricolor judokas who could train there daily), wrestling mats, 5 m archery trails, boxing rings, a 3 x 3 basketball court in the courtyard — will be put in place. “Either to do advanced sessions, or for additional training,” underlines Yann Cucherat. Recovery areas (cold baths, sauna), medical, paramedical (with physiotherapists, osteopaths, mental trainers), and conviviality areas will also be installed. Each discipline will have its own private location, in one of the high school classrooms.

“The federations will be able to organize their briefings there, do video analyses…” continues Yann Cucherat. If the organizing committee of the Olympic Games offers the same services to all delegations, France offers itself, with this equipment, a serious plus which will also make it possible to circumvent travel constraints for certain disciplines and scheduling concerns.

Each delegation has training slots in structures labeled Paris 2024, France, in addition to Insep, will therefore have this House of Performance, but also the Alice Millat sports complex in L’Île-Saint-Denis, reserved for the two French handball teams and the women’s basketball team. The system will be put in place for the Olympic Games, the staff of the French Paralympic team having requested buffer locations, close to the competition sites.
