After Wayne Ferreira, Frances Tiafoe is now working with Diego Moyano.

Expert expertise was necessary when Frances Tiafoe hired South African Wayne Ferreira as her new coach in February 2020, who had reached sixth place in the world rankings in singles during his career as a player. Within a year, the American had slipped from his previous highest ranking of 29th, which he achieved with his run to the quarterfinals at the 2019 Australian Open, to 82nd position in the ATP ranking.

Right at the start of their collaboration, the duo encountered a special situation with the corona pandemic. While the ATP tour stood still for more than five months without tournaments, the foundations in team chemistry and training work were laid. The 25-year-old made his way back up the world rankings in small but steady steps.

Tiafoe was very close to the big coup at the US Open 2022. In a dramatic semi-final he had to admit defeat in five sets to the eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz from Spain, who celebrated his first major title with the final victory over the Norwegian Casper Ruud. In June of this year, the three-time ATP title holder achieved his first-ever entry into the top 10 with his highest ranking of 10th place. It is not known why the successful collaboration has now ended. Tiafoe only found words of praise on social media and thanked his ex-coach for the time they spent together.

New coach Diego Moyano as an old acquaintance

Shortly after the announcement of Ferreira’s separation, the upcoming coach, Diego Moyano, was introduced. As a USTA coach, the Argentine worked alongside Tommy Paul and Reilly Opelka and also worked with Tiafoe during their junior years. On the tour, the 48-year-old former professional, who was ranked 130th in the singles, looked after Kevin Anderson from South Africa, among others, and ended his year-long collaboration with the American Coco Gauff in April of this year at his own request.
