Former National Player Kevin Kuranyi Exposes Bad Advisors In The Football Industry

He gossips about his colleagues!

Former national player Kevin Kuranyi (41) now works as a player agent. But the ex-striker has a huge problem with many colleagues! In an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, Kuranyi speaks out against the “bad guys” in the industry.

“Many advisors only see quick money. If you get even one footballer to the top, you’re all set. You can also earn millions as a consultant!”

Many colleagues would shamelessly exploit this: “When I look at a 16-year-old who can really do something, there are not three or four other advisors there besides me like before, but 30 or 40. And they try to convince the players and the parents babble. But do these advisors really want to help players develop? I’m not so sure.”

Colleague scolding from Kuranyi!

In his view, there are many “terrible advisors.” Many would think “first about the money and then about the player”. That’s why bad advisors are also to blame when ex-professionals get into financial difficulties or go bankrupt: “This often happens, especially with boys who didn’t go to school for long or come from poorer backgrounds. They never learned how to handle money. Then someone comes along who doesn’t care about you and just wants to make money from you – and then the money quickly disappears.”

And Kuranyi himself?

The striker ended his career in Hoffenheim in 2016 and then began working as a player agent. In his agency, Kuranyi primarily looks after young players, but also occasionally professionals from top foreign leagues.

Kuranyi distances himself from his colleagues’ alleged greed for money. “I have earned enough money. I want to give the players honest advice so that they can eventually get into the Bundesliga or become national players.”

Kuranyi followed “the call of money” as a player

Kuranyi admits with ruthless honesty: When he was still playing football himself, he thought about money completely differently. When he moved from Schalke to Dynamo Moscow in the summer of 2010, Kuranyi became the highest-paid footballer in Germany at the time. His confession: “Of course I followed the call of money. I admit that openly.” Kuranyi is said to have earned 5.7 million euros per year in Moscow.

The attacker made his debut for the German national team in March 2003 and played a total of 52 international matches (19 goals). In addition to his position in Moscow, Kuranyi played in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart (132 games), Schalke (209) and Hoffenheim (15).
