FIJLKAM Approves New Statute: Historic Reform and First President in Italian Judo History

JUDO. Fijlkam approves the new Statute and implements a historic reform with the first President in the history of Italian judo.

Last December 2nd, the 42nd Extraordinary National Assembly of the FIJLKAM Italian Judo Wrestling Karate and Martial Arts Federation. with which the vast majority of voters approved the changes made to the Federal Statute.

A historic, epochal internal reform of a Federation that celebrated 120 years of history last 2022, was in fact founded way back on 18 January 1902 by Marquis Luigi Monticelli Obizzi with the name of Italian Athletics Federation (FAI), with the aim of regulating Greco-Roman wrestling and weightlifting. In 1933 it became the Italian Heavyweight Athletics Federation (FIAP), in 1974 the Italian Weightlifting and Judo Federation (FILPJ), in 1995 the Italian Judo and Karate Weightlifting Federation (FILPJK) and in 2000 the Italian Judo, Karate and Martial Arts Federation (FIJLKAM).

In the context of the assembly of 2 December last which established the internal autonomy of the three Judo Wrestling and Karate Sectors, he assumed the position of President of the Judo Sector Giuseppe MATERA. In fact, the first President in the history of judobeing the Federation in its historical denominations that have followed one another over the years, an interdisciplinary Federation.

A result that compensates for years and years of selfless and incessant commitment and enormous sacrifices. First as an athlete and then as a federal manager. Rewarding a boundless love for this discipline and for his world.

Those who know the new President Giuseppe Matera say that he will certainly not rest on his laurels at all. He will face the challenges that 2024 reserves for him, aware of the tests that await him, always with his decisive, meticulous, determined and composed manner. Always shy and reserved, he doesn’t like the stage and the spotlight and instead works incessantly in silence and without sparing himself.

Safe and authoritative point of reference for all those who surround him and support him who find support and protection in him.

After the 41st elective Assembly in 2021, Giuseppe Matera was reconfirmed Federal Councilor and thanks to the very high number of preferences he was then appointed Vice President.

The National technical direction It is considered the “Italian system” worldwide for the brilliant results achieved to date. It is divided into 3 centers of excellence in Rome, Turin and Naples and 6 other Federal Technical Centers located in Rome, Turin, Vicenza, Bologna, Naples and Messina which work from a technical point of view in synergy with the Regional Technical Centers of various Regional Committees,

From 2021 to today, in fact, our blue bearers, in the cadet, junior and senior classes, in the various international competitions such as world championships, European championships, universiades, youth Olympics and Mediterranean games have collected 20 gold medals, 21 silver and 43 bronze.

In the Kata and Master sector, a Commission was created that includes the two specialties and, here too, as for the Technical Direction, the results were not lacking.

From 2021 to today in representatives of the specialties Kata e Master have respectively achieved in competitions such as European and World championships:

5 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze medals; 18 gold, 27 silver and 25 bronze medals.

In addition to the competitive results, there are many other results achieved and brought home. There are many projects implemented but 2024 holds many other challenges for FIJLKAM and specifically for the new President of the Judo Sector to face, just think that we are entering the Olympic year so one above all will be the Paris 2024 Olympics .

WHO IS GIUSEPPE MATERA

Born in Erice (Tp). on 19 March 1968 by father Francesco and mother Maria Teresa, he has two brothers, Claudio and Alessandro, both military. Proud dad of his two beautiful daughters named Ida and Elena.

Having enlisted in the “Meritorious” Carabinieri in 1987 as a Carabinieri, he subsequently attended the Carabinieri non-commissioned officer school in 1989. He then concluded his studies in 1992 with 174th “Courage” course at the prestigious Military Academy of Modena as a Carabinieri Officer Cadet. A man linked to the institutions and proud to wear a uniform symbol of legality, history, humanity, safety and protection.

He has a degree in Law, Internal Security Sciences and External Security Sciences.

He began taking his first steps in the world of Judo in September 1980 in Trapani at “Bushido Judo Trapani”. He was a member of the national college of Brescia, which in the 1980s was the nursery of the Italian national team. And finally also the Carabinieri Sports Center.

He was awarded the title of “Azzurro d’Italia” by President Pellicone for the activities carried out. While from a military point of view the Chief of the Defense Staff awarded him the military sport badge with Bronze star.
