European Cup: Toulouse fights back, Toulon loses on the gong

On alternating current in the Top 14, Stade Toulouse rebelled for its entry into the rugby Champions Cup, against Cardiff (52-7). The Red and Black scored seven tries, including two for Scottish recruit Blair Kinghorn, at home in the pouring rain.

Matthis Lebel (5th), Richie Arnold (9th), Anthony Jelonch (38th), Arthur Retière (46th) and Alban Placines (70th) also participated in this offensive Toulouse festival. The hinge Antoine Dupont-Thomas Ramos raised his level to lead the French champions towards a promising success, to be confirmed against an opponent of better caliber.

Serin towards a long absence

Toulon was heading towards the same outcome against Exeter, but ruined everything and finally lost (18-19), with an English try transformed after the siren. A cruel end for the RCT, clearly in the lead after a controlled first act (18-5), punctuated by two tries from Beka Gigashvili (20th) and Ben White (24th). But the Varois died after the injury of Baptiste Serin, hit in the shoulder. The international scrum-half, in very good shape since the start of the season, should be absent for a “certainly long” period, lamented his coach Pierre Mignoni.
