Goal scorer Schick wants to fight for his regular place in Leverkusen and not sit on the bench. Now he has a chance.

Patrik Schick has been waiting for this day for a long time. After more than a year and a persistent adductor injury, the Leverkusen striker returns to the starting line-up in the Europa League game against Molde FK on Thursday (6.45 p.m./RTL+). This was confirmed by coach Xabi Alonso.

“Yes, he already knows,” said the Bayer coach in the press conference. Schick has already had a few short appearances and also scored two goals. “I didn’t expect it to go so well and that I’ve already scored two goals,” said the Czech.

The team also made his return easy for him, he explained. “It was a long time and not easy for me. I’m happy that everything bad is behind me and I can focus on the future,” said Schick. Physically and mentally he feels 100 percent ready.

Goal: Long-term return to the starting eleven

“I need every minute now and want to play as much as possible,” said the 27-year-old before his starting eleven comeback. After all, he is a striker who has already scored more than 20 goals in a season. “I don’t want to sit on the bench. But I know that I have to work hard to earn my place in the starting line-up,” said Schick.

Against the Norwegians, coach Alonso will rotate in a few positions again after the already secured victory in preliminary group H. Keeper Niklas Lomb will be used in goal for the first time this season. “He deserves his chance and is ready,” said Alonso.
