Egle/Kipp open the World Cup season with victory

Selina Egle and Lara Michaela Kipp opened the luge World Cup season with a victory on Friday. The ÖRV duo prevailed in Lake Placid ahead of Dajana Eitberger/Saskia Schirmer from Germany (+0.113) and Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer from Italy (+0.546).

“I’m super happy. It was just small things for us,” said Egle happily in an ORF interview after her fifth World Cup victory. “It’s unbelievable that we were able to implement in the race what we showed in training. There’s nothing wrong with that. There is nothing hotter.” Kipp was also happy: “We heard horror stories about the train, and there was a bit of fear. But we had enough time to adjust to it and now things are going great.”

US men’s duo prevents ÖRV double victory

Austria’s men’s doubles team also got off to a strong start, with only the US duo Zachary Di Gregorio/Sean Hollander preventing the ÖRV from achieving a double victory. Thomas Steu and Wolfgang Kindl came second, Juri Gatt and Riccardo Schöpf third. Yannick Müller and Armin Frauscher ended up in seventh place.

Kindl said at the start of the season: “The fact that we were racing in the double-seater was something that was initially apparent in training, but it also worked out in the race, which is even nicer. I’m a little sorry about the driving mistake, but I definitely would have won today.”

The first day of competition concludes with the men’s single-seater competition. The first round can currently be seen in full length in the live stream. The second round follows from 8:05 p.m. and will also be shown in full in the live stream.
