East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa witnessed the 2023 East Java Governor’s Cup National Badminton Championship Final at the Sudirman Badminton GOR. Jl. Dr. Ir. Soekarno No. 8 Surabaya, Saturday (2/12/2023) afternoon.
On this occasion, Governor Khofifah was present and directly handed over awards to the champions and overall champions and handed over the main prize for the East Java Governor’s Cup National Badminton Championship in the form of an electric motorbike.
“Today is an extraordinary historic day for the world of sports, especially in East Java Province. “Because we have held a series of national level badminton championships, the East Java Governor’s Cup together,” he stressed.
“Congratulations to the Champions. “Hopefully this event can be an encouragement, proof of achievement and strengthen skills to be able to excel at events on a higher scale,” added Governor Khofifah.
What’s interesting, in the series of finals for the East Java Governor’s Cup national level badminton championship, the expedition game of the 2023 Denmark Open and French Open finalists, namely Bagas Maulana and M. Shohibul Fikri, was also enlivened. Both of their performances amazed and inspired every audience present.
Furthermore, Governor Khofifah specifically appreciated all the participants who participated in the East Java Governor’s Cup Badminton Championship. The reason is that there are 1,000 athletes who have participated and have competed since November 27 2023.
What’s special is that the participants are not only from East Java but also athletes from various parts of Indonesia. So Governor Khofifah said this event was rich in exchange of knowledge, experience, skills, brotherhood and also kinship.
“Unlike previous events, this event is special because it is open to all athletes from all over the country and on a national scale. “Hopefully this event can become an event that strengthens kinship and brotherhood between athletes in Indonesia to achieve even better achievements,” he stressed.
In terms of prizes, this year the total prizes have also been increased. If the previous year the total prize up for grabs was IDR 160 million, this year it reached IDR 200 million.

Inauguration of the Athlete’s Dormitory
On this occasion, Governor Khofifah also inaugurated the Sudirman Surabaya Badminton Athlete Dormitory. Equipped with 20 athlete rooms, this dormitory has 10 rooms for female athletes and 10 rooms for female athletes, each room occupied by two people.
Not only that, this dormitory is also equipped with a series of complete coaching facilities. Such as gym facilities, prayer room, and laundry facilities. All facilities are connected to GOR Sudirman so that athletes can maximize the training and coaching process.
“Currently there are 30 athletes living in this dormitory. “Hopefully with complete facilities, East Java athletes can focus and maximize the training process, becoming more enthusiastic about welcoming brilliant achievements,” he said.
At the end, Governor Khofifah invited all parties to continue joining hands to advance East Java sports. In the future, the East Java Provincial Government will continue to make efforts to develop East Java’s young talents and advance the badminton achievements of East Java and Indonesia.
