Detroit Pistons: The Struggle for Victory and the Fight for Resilience

Detroit Pistons tie NBA record for longest losing streak in a single season

With the 126-115 loss to the Nets on Saturday, Detroit is now tied with the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers for the record for longest loss in a season at 26 games.

The 76ers hold the record of defeat with 28 matches, a dubious performance which spanned two seasons. The losing streak began at the end of the 2014-2015 year and continued into the following season.

The Pistons’ last victory was on October 28, when they beat the Chicago Bulls. The team’s record is now 2-27.

“Losing is terrible in this league and we’ve had a lot of them,” head coach Monty Williams told reporters Saturday. “I’m proud of the way they fight every night.

Asked about his team’s state of mind amid the losing streak, Monty Williams said it was human nature to “feel down” when you lose “so many times in a row.”

“You have to let people be human, but the way they come back the next day is something that amazes me,” Williams added. “I’ve been around a lot of teams and not many have that type of resilience. Our guys don’t want to be part of a losing streak, but every day they come back with focus, will and determination to try to win a match.

The Pistons will have an opportunity to break the record Tuesday, when they host the Nets at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
