German evening at the Darts World Cup in London. After Florian Hempel, Martin Schindler also won his duel. The man from Strausberg showed a clear performance and perfected the black-red-gold record. For the first time, three Germans are in the third round.

Martin Schindler initially devoted himself to his opponent and offered a little consolation. Only then did he raise his fist in the air. The Strausberger won 3-1 against the Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena in London’s Alexandra Palace. This is the first time in the history of the World Darts Championship that three Germans have reached the third round. Before Schindler, Gabriel Clemens and immediately before Florian Hempel had already made it to the last 32. Hempel caused a spectacle in his 3-2 win against the Belgian Dimitri van den Bergh and won after being 0-2 set down and having survived three match darts.

Schindler took a much more confident approach, got the break he needed in the third leg and then made it 1-0. His average was 97.57 points, three of his four attempts on the double fields were possible. A tailor-made start. And the Strausberger kept the level, also completed his throw-off set 3-1 and was not deterred by one of his opponent’s highlights. Wattimena caused a stir in the third round with a 170 checkout and checked to make it 1:2 after sets. Schindler had previously missed a match dart on tops in the decider with 145 points remaining.

The 27-year-old stayed cool, won set four 3-1 on double 16 and became the third German to advance to round three. In the end, the average was 96.93, the double rate remained just over 50 percent. It was the calmness that characterized his game. And so it should continue. “If I deliver this performance in the next round against Scott Williams, I think I have a good chance of reaching the round of 16,” he said confidently and realistically.

But first round three, together with two other Germans. At least. “Maybe we’ll even be four. It’s great to be part of this trio or quartet,” said Florian Hempel, delighted about the historic success. With Ricardo Pietreczko, who will play against Callan Rydz (England) on Saturday, another German could make the jump. “I had already said to Gabriel that there might be four of us in round three,” reported Schindler: “And Ricardo might even be the favorite in his game. It’s great how German darts is developing. We have reached a new level.”
