Criollos de Caguas Add Impact Hitters Ríos and Ortiz for Semifinals

The Criollos de Caguas selected position players Edwin Ríos and Danny Ortiz for the semifinal series of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (LBPRC).

Both hitters belong to the Mayagüez Indians and were chosen in the draw for teams eliminated from the regular phase.

“Very happy and pleased with these two selections. I think it was very important for us to be able to get two impact players on our team,” said Jesús “Motorita” Feliciano, general manager of the Criollos.

Ortiz is an experienced outfielder with 14 seasons in the LBPRC, all with the Indians. In the Mexican Baseball League, he is one of the greatest home run hitters of all time for the Pericos de Puebla team.

“Danny has always been a winner and been on this type of stage. In recent weeks, offensively, he has looked very good. We know that he is one of the best defensive outfielders in our league and he fits very well into the group,” Feliciano said.

Ríos has been in Major League Baseball (MLB) for five years and in the 2023 season he was in 18 games with the Chicago Cubs. This year he made his debut in Puerto Rican winter baseball.

“We could notice that in recent weeks, Edwin made some adjustments and we know that a hitter like him, proven in Major League baseball, will be of great help,” said Feliciano.

The series against the Cangrejeros de Santurce, with a maximum of seven games, will begin on January 2 at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan and will continue on Wednesday at the Yldefonso Solá Morales Stadium in Caguas. All games will be broadcast on WAPA 2 and 4.3 at 7:00 pm and ‘playball’ will be sung at 7:15 pm
