The Liguria Regional Council approved the amendment presented by the League which allows the game huntingalso deer and mouflon, but above all wild boar, with bow and arrows. A decision which, however, did not please environmentalists and many citizens. In the last few hours a mailbombing has hit the email addresses of regional councilors and the Ligurian governor Giovanni Toti: a long email that ends by asking to go back on a decision that has the characteristics of “legalized barbarity”.

A return to prehistory
We are no longer in prehistory and at least some common ethical basis should exist, unnecessary suffering should not be inflicted on anyone”, we read in the email. The approved resolution “does not respect this basis, bow hunters are not all Olympic champions (and for that matter also Olympic shooters do not always hit perfect marks, otherwise competitions would not exist) and it is all too easy to hypothesize situations with
animals pierced by an arrow that wander and agonize for days. Moreover, now with the advent of the Internet it is not difficult to find photographic documentation on the point. There is a reason, and it is greater effectiveness and accuracy, why modern rifles have replaced the old arquebuses, arquebuses have replaced swords and arrows, and swords and arrows have replaced clubs.”

A barbarism “To what point of barbarism do we want to go back in time? And to favor whom, then? A very small group of archery enthusiasts who could well satisfy their passions with archery competitions, or by taking part in medieval historical re-enactments , that is, of the time to which that instrument belongs – concludes the email -. For what has been expressed above, I would be grateful if you would review the resolution set out above, therefore denying the possibility of carrying out hunting activities with bow and arrows”.

The online petition Alongside the mailbombing there was also an online petition against an “unholy proposal” to ”
free slaughter“, which in just a few hours had already reached 500 signatures. In the hours immediately following the approval of the resolution, an M5s councilor, Paolo Ugolini, also protested: “As noted by the Gaia-Animali e Ambiente association, the use of the bow, although foreseen as a possibility by national law, it is an exercise in pure cruelty. It is a barbarity for which the regional councilors who voted for the amendment will be responsible.”
