Choi Min-jeong (25, Seongnam City Hall), the Korean women’s short track star, won her first gold medal in her second domestic competition this season.
Choi Min-jeong took first place in the women’s 500m final at the 39th President’s Cup National Men’s and Women’s Short Track Speed Skating Competition held at Jeonju Hwasan Gymnasium Ice Rink on the 22nd. The day before, she finished second in the 1500m and finished second.
This is the first gold medal this season. This season, Choi Min-jung did not compete for the national team for the first time since 2014, and is busy resting, replacing equipment such as skate boots and blades, and honing new techniques and tactics. Choi Min-jung, who has been training individually, competed in her first official race this season at the 2nd Prime Minister’s Cup National Men’s and Women’s Short Track Championships last month. In the 1500m she started in 3rd place and started her comeback to the Taegeuk mark by finishing in 3rd place.

Choi Min-jeong lost the championship by 0.042 seconds to Noh Do-hee (Hwaseong City Hall) in her President’s Boat 1500m final with a time of 2 minutes, 42.172 seconds. However, she came out on top in the 500m final with a time of 45.983 seconds, beating Shin Saebom (regular of the race) by 0.140 seconds.
In the men’s general division, Lee Do-jin (Hwaseong City Hall) won two gold medals in the 500m and 1000m. Tae-seong Gam (Dankook University), a male college student, and Ria Kim (Korea National Sport University), a female college student, also won two gold medals (500m and 1,000m).
