Taimazova, who lost to Arai, won the third place match and won the bronze medal.
This will be Arai’s first Olympics after missing out on the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. After losing in Rio, she revised her judo style and won the World Championship in 2017, and the Grand Slam in 2020, qualifying her for the Tokyo Olympics.
Arai is 27 years old from Yorii Town, Saitama Prefecture. Influenced by his older brother, he started judo when he was in kindergarten, and in high school won the 70kg class at the Kanto tournament, winning all matches. He also won first place in the same class at the Inter-High School (National High School Comprehensive Athletic Tournament).
