Chaos, arguments, vacancies: TSV 1860 Munich in crisis mode

Coach gone, a new sports director not officially confirmed, and the investor is making a sweeping attack: There is – once again – fire under the roof at third division soccer team TSV 1860 Munich.

Things are simmering at Giesing’s heights: In terms of sport, the club is on the decline (15th place) and has pulled the ripcord after the third defeat in a row: Maurizio Jacobacci is no longer the coach of the traditional club. “A change was needed,” said current managing director Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer at a press conference the day after the dismissal and emphasized. “The emergency brake was the only solution.”

Schmöller does not have the necessary coaching license – Essen home game canceled

Frank Schmöller, successful with the Lions’ U21, should take over. The 57-year-old former Bundesliga player (Hamburger SV) was supposed to celebrate his debut in the home game against Rot-Weiss Essen, but the game has now been canceled.

Schmöller is supposed to coach the Sixzgers until the winter break. It won’t work any longer because he doesn’t have the necessary license. And the club clearly rejects the Unterhaching case, where the club has to pay a fine for every game that coach Marc Unterberger is on the sidelines.

So the Lions have to go into the new year with a new coach. A long-term solution should be approached “with ambition” in the relevant committees, as Pfeifer emphasized. There are many names circulating in Giesing: Tobias Schweinsteiger, Reiner Maurer and Jochen Seitz. Lions legend Daniel Bierofka is said to have already canceled the club.

When will the new sports director Werner come?

But everyday things are already becoming a problem at TSV 1860: finding a coach, for example, would be the responsibility of the sports director, but this position is still vacant after the departure of Günther Gorenzel. Although Christian Werner is considered Gorenzel’s designated successor, this has not yet been confirmed by the club and a contract has not yet been signed.

In addition to the search for a coach, other important things would be waiting for Werner: The squad, which was put together by Jacobacci, among others, had weaknesses in the first half of the season and had little harmony. New players, especially in attack, would be good for the club. In addition, 18 contracts are expiring – including that of captain Jesper Verlaat. An extension of the top performer’s contract has so far failed because there is no sports director.

Further escalation in the power struggle between Ismaik and eV

In keeping with the whole confusion, investor Hasan Ismaik spoke out and sharply criticized the eV representatives after the coach’s dismissal. In an interview with “Sport Bild”, the Jordanian made serious allegations.

Above all, the non-extension of Pfeifer’s contract is hardly understandable for Ismaik. It was due to a man’s “high-handed decision” based on personal animosity because he was caught. This refers to President Robert Reisinger, who recently resigned from the supervisory board in order to no longer be bound by confidentiality.

The investor also doesn’t like Werner’s hiring as sports director: “I would have found it better if the rest of this season had been used to assess Werner’s performance as sports director and then decide whether he can be promoted.”
