Rostock’s Junior Brumado was shown the red card quite late after a tip from the video assistant because he caught Schalke’s Blendi Idrizi with his elbow immediately before the break. Referee Nicolas Winter had initially shown him a yellow card about half an hour earlier.

In front of 27,250 spectators in the Ostseestadion, Idrizi (72nd) and Kenan Karaman (86th) scored for Schalke. Schalke’s Tobias Mohr (45th + 36th) provided the only playful highlight of the first half with a free kick that hit the crossbar. In the second half, Schalke became more aggressive when they had the majority, and Idrizi took the deserved lead. Karaman increased the score with a counterattack goal shortly before the final whistle.

Kiel draws level with St. Pauli

Holstein Kiel has drawn level with league leaders FC St. Pauli on points. The second-placed team won the top game at rival Fortuna Düsseldorf 1-0 (1-0) and has now also collected 32 points after 16 games. Lewis Holtby scored the goal for the guests’ sixth away win in the 18th minute. Fortuna has already suffered its third home defeat and is fifth in the table, five points behind Kiel.

The hosts didn’t get off to a good start in front of 31,042 spectators in the Düsseldorf EM Arena. Although the red card for a foul against Düsseldorf’s Felix Klaus was converted into a yellow card after a video check in the eleventh minute, seven minutes later Holtby scored with a header to make it 1-0 for Kiel. Fortuna only got better into the game late in a mediocre game and was unlucky that Yannik Engelhardt only hit the crossbar (74th minute). Kiel’s Fiete Arp even missed the 2-0 on a counterattack.

Nuremberg celebrates late in Elversberg

1. FC Nürnberg has ended its small crisis in results and is back in sight of the expanded top group. Daichi Hayashi scored the winning goal for the Franconians in the 83rd minute.

Both teams largely neutralized each other and initially acted without any danger. The greatest excitement in the first half was caused by the Nuremberg fans, who threw objects such as rolls of paper onto the grass and also hit “Club” goalkeeper Christian Mathenia in the head. However, the 31-year-old was able to continue playing without any problems.
