Thanks to Borussia Dortmund’s group victory in the Champions League, the club can hope for a comparatively easy opponent. FC Bayern is likely to have a similar fate in the draw. The prospects for RB Leipzig, on the other hand, are not so rosy.
After the group phase of the Champions League has ended, FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund could face duels with Italian clubs in the round of 16. In the draw on Monday (12 p.m.) at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, the two Bundesliga clubs could be drawn against the Italian champions SSC Napoli, the last-time finalists Inter Milan or Lazio Rome. FC Porto and PSV Eindhoven are also possible opponents of the two Bundesliga clubs, who each won the group.
For BVB, which is weak in the Bundesliga, the Champions League appears to remain an oasis of well-being. In the 1-1 (0-0) draw against the star ensemble from Paris St. Germain on Wednesday evening, Dortmund were also very lucky, but to the astonishment of the experts, they finished top of Group F as winners. It was a worthwhile exchange of blows between both teams.
Karim Adeyemi (51st minute) gave the hosts the lead, and Warren Zaire-Emery (56th) equalized for PSG shortly afterwards. As a result, the opponents from the French capital, who were supported by a lot of money from Qatar and were considered title contenders, barely made it into the round of the last 16 teams.
It could be a reunion for FC Bayern
This means that another duel with Paris is now possible for FC Bayern. Bayern also prevailed in the round of 16 last season against France’s top team led by star striker Kylian Mbappé, who came second in Group F behind Borussia Dortmund. BVB could also draw FC Copenhagen, second in the Bayern group.

As second in the group, RB Leipzig is threatened with a difficult draw in the round of 16. The four Spanish clubs Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Real Sociedad San Sebastian and Atlético Madrid are just as possible opponents as Arsenal FC.
The round of 16 will take place in the new year. The first legs will take place on the 13th/14th/20th/21st. February, the second legs on the 5th/6th/12th/13th. March. As group leaders, Bayern and Dortmund will initially compete away.
