Carlos Alcaraz without his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero at the Australian Open

Carlos Alcaraz will travel to the Australian Open without his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. According to information from the Spanish newspaper Marca, Ferrero, recovering after an arthroscopy of the left knee (surgical procedure which allows the inside of the knee to be explored to diagnose and treat various joint conditions), will not be able to go to Australia with his protégé. Even if “Ferrero, despite the intervention, does not miss any of his player’s training sessions these days,” the newspaper continues.

He will be replaced by Samuel Lopez, who is the coach of Pablo Carreño Busta, even if Lopez was already with Alcaraz during the last Queen’s, just won by the Spaniard.

Still according to Marca, after a long period on crutches, Juan Carlos Ferrero could reunite with his protégé at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells (March 6 to 17), where Alcaraz will try to defend his title.
