Cape Breton Eagles player Jacob Newcombe is finished with treatment for his cancer, as he is now considered in remission.
The 19-year-old young man rang the famous bell on Thursday meaning that chemotherapy was behind him. The Nova Scotian was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last August.

Newcombe was preparing to begin a third season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, a first in Cape Breton. He joined the ranks of this team in December 2022, from the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. He finished the season with 46 points in 69 games.
