Cancer: Jacob Newcombe rings the bell for the last treatment

Cape Breton Eagles player Jacob Newcombe is finished with treatment for his cancer, as he is now considered in remission.

The 19-year-old young man rang the famous bell on Thursday meaning that chemotherapy was behind him. The Nova Scotian was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last August.

“What a nice sound. Jacob Newcombe today rang the bell signifying his last day of cancer treatment!! We can’t wait to see you again “Newc”,” the Eagles wrote on social media.

Newcombe was preparing to begin a third season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, a first in Cape Breton. He joined the ranks of this team in December 2022, from the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. He finished the season with 46 points in 69 games.
