BWF World Tour Finals 2023 semifinals, Fajar/Rian and Jojo against Chinese representatives

KOMPAS.com – Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Jonatan Christie both played Chinese representatives in the semifinals of the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals.

The results of the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals semifinal draw were announced after the group phase ended at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Friday (15/12/2023) evening WIB.

The semifinals of the BWF World Tour Finals pit the group winners against each other runner-up group

Fajar/Rian, who is the winner of Group B, faces Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang, who is runner-up Group A.

Reporting from BWF Tournament Software, Fajar/Rian is 2-1 ahead in their meeting record against Liang/Wang.

The last meeting between the two pairs occurred in the final of the Malaysia Open 2023 which Fajar/Rian won with a score of 21-18, 18-21, 21-13.

Meanwhile, Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi (Group A winners) are confirmed to face world champions Kang Min-hyuk/Seo Seung-jae (South Korea) who are runner-up Group B.

The draw results in the men’s singles sector brought together Jonatan Christie who was runner-up Group B with Shi Yu Qi who won Group A.

The semifinals of the 2023 BWF World Tour Finals will be the 12th meeting between Jonathan and Shi Yu Qi. Jonathan was ahead with a score of 6-5.

This year the two players have met twice in the semifinals of the 2023 Indonesia Masters and the round of 32 of the Singapore Open 2023.

Jonathan won at the Indonesia Masters, Shi Yu Qi then returned the favor at the Singapore Open 2023.

The winner between Jonathan and Shi Yu Qi will meet one of the Danish representatives, namely Viktor Axelsen (runner-up Group A) or Anders Antonsen (Group B winner).
