BW Open Organizers Gear Up for Second Edition with Volunteer Appeal

Fifty days before the start of the second edition of the BW Open (January 22 to 28), the organizers have entered the home stretch of preparations for the biggest tennis event of the year 2024 in Wallonia. With a small problem to resolve…

The ambitions of the organizers.

“We still need volunteers,” explained Vincent Stavaux, co-organizer of this Challenger 125. “There are still holes to fill. It’s important for us to find people. This year, we want to improve a series of points but to achieve this, we need help. To sustain the event, we must control costs and that is why we are still looking for volunteers. For them, experiencing this adventure from the inside will be something extremely interesting. They will be able to discover behind the scenes. To be honest, last year we worked understaffed. The public didn’t particularly see it but on our side we ran everywhere. This year, things are already better but there is still a need. We throw a bottle into the sea. There are positions like steward in the stands or steward in areas reserved for players to be filled. For those who are interested, they can go to our website (www.bw-open.com) where they will find an email address ([email protected]) with which they can contact us.”

Winner of the tournament last January, David Goffin will still be present at the Blocry in Louvain-la-Neuve if he does not go further than the third round at the Australian Open. For his part, Justine Henin’s former manager reminds us of the conditions of access for players to the Brabant event: “No player in the top 10 can play. Players in the top 50 cannot register but they can receive a wild card. The week of our tournament, there is only one other Challenger in Quimper, that’s the positive side. In a typical week, there are three other ATP tournaments plus Challengers. The negative side is that players registered with us but who make it past the third round in Melbourne will skip our tournament. I remain convinced that our date is a good one. And those who know about it or who came in January 2023 have understood that the level of tennis offered in Louvain-la-Neuve is very, very high.”
