Last weekend, eight fighters from the Buchs Judo Club traveled to the Swiss individual championships. These took place over two days in Yverdon-les-Bains.
The first day of competition opened with the U18 category. Here the Buchser judokas were represented by Samuel Tischhauser (-60 kg) and Rachel White (-63 kg). For both of them it was their first participation in the national championships, for which they have to qualify each year. White and Tischhauser showed good judo and ultimately both finished seventh.
The veterans then stepped onto the mat. With Roman Eggenberger (+90 kg) and Pius Rohrer (-90 kg), the Buchsers had two experienced judokas. Eggenberger won two of his fights and only had to admit defeat once. With this performance he won the silver medal. Rohrer was able to place seventh in the veterans -90 kg category.
Reto Enderlin (Elite -100 kg) was able to take third place in his category, Noémie White (Elite -52 kg) took fifth place.
Fought for third place via repechage
On Sunday it was the Buchser juniors’ turn. Here Ramon Hardegger (U21 -100 kg) was able to fight his way to the top with three confident victories. For Hardegger it is already the third gold medal at the Swiss championships in a row.
Noémie White (U21 -52 kg) was able to fight her way into the small final via repechage after a defeat in the quarterfinals. She remained victorious there too and secured bronze.
Manuel Tischhauser and Rachel White were unable to fight their way to the top in their weight classes and each finished in seventh place.
In the end, after a weekend full of emotions, the Buchs judokas traveled home from French-speaking Switzerland with four medals in their luggage. The highlight of the season is now over, and after a short Christmas break the focus is already on next year’s competitions.
