Bongdong Elementary School Wins Second Place in Junior Badminton Competition

Bongdong Elementary School (Principal Jang Nam-deok) won second place in the under-13 boys’ doubles match at the ‘2023 Miryang Wowon Yonex Korea Junior Open Badminton Championship’ held in Miryang, Gyeongnam from November 27 to December 3.

This is another achievement following runner-up in the team event at the Korea Badminton Association Janggi National Badminton Competition last April, runner-up at the 52nd National Boys Sports Festival, and 3rd place in the team event at the National Inter-School Badminton Championships in July.

In particular, this competition is Korea’s only international junior competition approved by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and is the first international competition held in four years due to COVID-19.

About 1,040 players from 11 countries, including badminton powerhouses Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Indonesia, participated, and Bongdong Elementary School participated in the men’s singles match and the men’s doubles match for those aged 13 and under.

In the men’s singles match, Hyo-seop Lim advanced to the quarterfinals, and in the doubles match, six sixth-year students Bon-woo Koo, Woo-young Choi, Bu-geon Jo, Hyo-seop Lim, Im Sang-yeon, and Si-woo Cheon participated in three teams. The men’s doubles team of Jo Bu-geon and Lim Hyo-seop reached the finals, and although they narrowly lost to a team composed of the two top players from Seoul and Busan, they achieved an amazing result of finishing as runners-up as a single-school team.

○Director Lim Seong-su and Coach Lee Seung-hyun said, “I am proud of the Bongdong Elementary School badminton team that achieved great success at this international competition held for the first time in four years,” and encouraged the badminton team to grow further in the future.
