Beyond the Top 200: The Grueling Marathon Day of Tennis Pro Christoph Negritu

While the big tennis stars are currently in the quiet phase of the season, the players outside the top 200 hardly have any time to rest. Christoph Negritu knows this only too well.

The German tennis professional is currently only ranked 677th in the world rankings. At an ITF tournament in Monastir, Tunisia, there was a marathon that was also new for the 29-year-old.

So he played six (!) games within one day. He played the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals in the singles and doubles competition – a real marathon day.

The reason for this large number of matches was the weather conditions in the North African country. It had been raining for days, so the matches had piled up. But because the organizers really wanted to choose a winner, this crazy appointment came about.

The native of Middle Franconia told the FAZ that after his victories he mostly stayed on the pitch and waited for his next opponent. He only had a 20-minute break, during which he only had a few dates and a cappuccino.

The effort paid off for Negritu. He collected six world ranking points and 1,650 euros in prize money. He was only denied victory in the tournament and lost both finals.
