Besiktas Istanbul is taking action after a mixed autumn season.
Five players are removed from the squad. They are Vincent Aboubakar (31), Valentin Rosier (27), Eric Bailly (29), Rachid Ghezzal (31) and Jean Onana (23). The five legionnaires together make up around a fifth of Besiktas’ squad value (25.8 million euros).
Poor performance and disagreements within the team were cited as the reason for the measure. In the 1:3 derby defeat against Fenerbahce, all players – apart from the injured Rosier – were still in the squad. Aboubakar is even Besiktas’ top goalscorer (eleven goals in all competitions in the autumn).
As the club announced in the official announcement, work on restructuring the squad is progressing.
Besiktas is currently only fifth in the Süper Lig. Overwintering in the Conference League is also no longer possible early on.
