Before Paris 2024, Team USA will face South Sudan and Germany in a friendly match

Ready to put on the warm-up blue to help the United States retain Olympic gold, LeBron James will return to conquered territory if he appears on the American list this summer. Before the Paris Games from July 26, 2024, Team USA will play two friendly matches in London, where James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant won a gold medal in 2012 against Spain in the final. The American Federation announced on Tuesday two preparation matches at the O2 Arena in London, against South Sudan on July 20 then Germany, the reigning world champion, on the 22nd.

Two last rehearsals before the Olympics

“It’s a great opportunity to play Team USA right before the Olympics. A final rehearsal against those who will probably be the favorites,” rejoiced Gordon Herbert, Germany coach, quoted on the American Federation website. At the beginning of September in Manila, his team shattered the Americans’ dream of world gold at the end of a semi-final full of suspense (111-113). The friendly match will therefore already have the appearance of revenge before a possible reunion in the final phase of the Olympic tournament.

The other announced opponent, South Sudan, will make its first appearance at the Olympics after its historic qualification won during the World Cup as the best African team (17th). Former NBA All-Star in Chicago, and now president of the South Sudanese Federation, Luol Deng will also experience a special moment. In 2012, the ex-winger played in the Olympic Games in the jersey of… Great Britain.
