Bahiense del Norte: The Legacy and Triumphs of a Historic Club

Bahiense del Norte was created on December 1, 1975 with a partly cloudy, windy sky and high temperature. That day the historic merger took place. “Deportivo Norte and Bahiense Juniors were left behind. “They are now history and as such, we will remember and value them. But now another club is born. It is the creature that we have to raise, care for and make it grow healthy,” were the first from Jorge Ginobili, Manu’s father, who chaired the meeting in which the club was established.

Sports practiced in Bahiense del Norte

The main activity of Bahiense del Norte is basketball. The discipline brings together more than 150 young people, and there are two categories of pre-mini, two of mini, one of pre-infant, two of children, three of cadets, one of youth, under 21 and the first division.

In volleyball, girls participate in the under 14, under 16, under 18 and first category competitions.

Skate is another of the sports practiced at the club, although it is licensed: a school operates with approximately 40 young people.

Finally, although he stopped playing competitive padel a couple of years ago, his courts are almost always occupied by fans who play it recreationally.

Alejandro Montecchia and Pepe Sánchez: the first great litter of Bahiense del Norte

From the quarry, the brilliant Alejandro Montecchia had emerged with national and then international projection, who was the first of the litter before making his professional debut at Sport Club Cañadense.

“It so happened that the dealership did not agree, so I was forced to go personally to the headquarters at Salta 359. We argued. He got angry. Even a chair got up from its place… It was a very hard moment. Finally, some other people intervened and it didn’t go any further,” Manu Ginobili’s father recalled in an interview for La Nueva.

“For a while, shortly after the merger, the older partners sometimes used to mention that I was from Bahiense Juniors,” or that I belonged to Deportivo Norte. But the situation gradually eased. The children and grandchildren accepted the situation without reservation and changed things,” Jorge said.

In the 30 years of its existence, Bahiense del Norte had six presidents: Jorge Ginobili, from 1975 to 1985; Luis Pozzo Ardizzi, from 1985 to 1987; Juan Schamberger, from 1988 to 1993; Guillermo Faure, from 1994 to 1996; Jorge Caubet, from 1997 to 2000, and from 2001 onwards Juan Alberto Antón.
