There are several versions of the background to the injury. According to the Uruguayan newspaper El Observador, rescue workers were called to a Lavezzi family celebration on Wednesday morning. The 38-year-old is said to have suffered a broken collarbone and a stab wound to his stomach area, according to the report. The background was a dispute about money, the argument escalated and a family member stabbed him.

But the family’s version is completely different: Lavezzi’s relatives explained to TYC Sports that the 51-time Argentina international fell from a ladder and that the stab wound was only superficial.
The authorities should now clarify the circumstances; the police have already started investigations.
Lavezzi ended his career at the beginning of 2020. The Argentine had his most successful time at SSC Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain, and the winger then ended his active career in China at Hebei FC.
