Anthony Edwards: An All-Star in Waiting

NBA – Although named All-Star at the start of the year, Anthony Edwards does not yet see himself as such because he had replaced an injured man.

Aspiring league superstar (if he isn’t already), Anthony Edwards is to date one of the outsiders for the title of MVP 2024, both thanks to his individual performances (26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 interceptions) and collective (15-4, leader of the West).

In all likelihood, and barring an unfortunate injury, the Wolves will travel to Indianapolis in February for the next All-Star Game and, in his eyes, this selection will be the one that will allow him to acquire All-Star status for good.

Don’t call him All-Star

“For good”, because even if he was named All-Star in 2023, Anthony Edwards does not completely consider himself as such…

« This selection does not count. Someone got hurt and I was the backup… It was terrible. I don’t like it when people call me All-Star. I’m not really “, he said this week.

In fact, Anthony Edwards had effectively replaced Zion Williamson at short notice and, even if he does not seem to accept it, this selection is indeed in his record.

He thought he wasn’t last season

At the time, even before being named a replacement by the NBA, we remember that “Ant-Man” did not expect to appear in the All-Star Game in Salt Lake City and that is probably the reason why he has so much difficulty considering his first star as “legitimate”.

« I’m just happy for the guys that got caught. I didn’t even watch it. I knew I wasn’t going to be there

», he declared then, without regrets, after the announcement of the replacements. “ I feel like I’m never the one who gets picked for this kind of thing. I really have to be on top of it. That’s what I’ll do next year, so I won’t worry about it. »

A few months later, we can actually see that Anthony Edwards is “ really above » competition for his position and, even if the playoffs will always remain his priority, we imagine that being elected All-Star by the public or by the coaches motivates him quite a bit this season…
