Lokeren –
During the annual sports gala, the city of Lokeren and the Lokeren Sports Council honor the sporting champions and laureates of 2023 with speeches, sports performances and honors. In total, no fewer than 40 provincial, 10 Flemish, 28 Belgian and 8 European champions and 1 world champion were celebrated.
There were also some individual trophies. Julie Strubbe (badminton) was named sports promise of the year, the DIOP Modern team (dance) became the sports team of 2023 and athletics club AVLO was honored as sports club of the year. Athlete Svea Van Laere became sportswoman of the year and rescue swimmer Torsten Goossens was named sportsman of 2023. Albert D’Hanis, the face of Lokeren handball club for years, received the city’s trophy for sporting merit.
