Alpine skiing: Brignone takes third win of the season

Some prominent runners did not find their way to the finish, including Mikaela Shiffrin, Marta Bassino and Laura Gut-Behrami, who were eliminated after good split times. Of the first 30 riders, only 19 made it to the end of the route. The athletes had to push themselves to their limits on the curvy and undulating course in order to be successful.

Federica Brignone succeeded best, who assessed her ninth success in a Super-G in an ORF interview as follows: “I’m very happy with my run, the race wasn’t that easy. It was fast but with lots of curves. I tried everything, my focus was to be as fast as possible. I’ve already won so much, right now I just want to have fun driving.”

Hütter collides with the pole

Cornelia Hütter stopped laughing for a moment. The 31-year-old initially catapulted herself to the top with a risky ride, 0.93 seconds ahead of leader Laura Pirovona. But the joy about it only lasted for a short time, because Brignone, as the next runner, took almost nine tenths of a second off the Styrian. In the end, the third downhill finisher from Saturday was 0.28 seconds short of a podium place.

Hütter collides with a goal

Despite a collision with a directional gate, Hütter was able to continue her journey and came fourth.

However, Hütter had to overcome a moment of shock during her journey: “I started with commitment and my line was right to the millimeter, then I caught a goal and at first I couldn’t see anything. It almost became a bit confusing for me. The helmet is also broken. It was a real fool that scared me. It was a fight and it was cool, but I could have saved myself that. But I’m fine, I’m run down.”

Five Austrians between 13 and 20

However, Hütter should remain the only ÖSV athlete in the top ten. In contrast to Hütter, her compatriot Mirjam Puchner consistently lost time from top to bottom. The Salzburg woman couldn’t cope with the course and lost 2.84 seconds to Brignone. In the end it was still enough for 13th place.

Behind Puchner, several Austrians were ranked within the top 20. For example, Christina Ager (+3.02), Anja Rädler came 16th (+3.23), Lena Wechner (+3.29) came 18th, Michaela Heider (+3.37) also scored points in 20th place. As do Stephanie Brunner (23rd), Sabrina Maier (27th) and Christine Scheyer (29th).

There is now a longer break from racing for the speed ladies. The next Super-G will not be on the program until January 12th in Zauchensee (11 a.m., live on ORF1). However, there is still a mission for the technicians before Christmas. On Thursday (5:45 p.m., live on ORF1) there will be slalom racing in Courchevel.
