He reigning champion of Saudi Arabia, Al Ittihad, captained by Karim Benzema, lost on their home court 5-2 against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr on Tuesday, in Jeddah, in a postponed match from the 17th round of the local tournament.

Highly criticized by the Saudi press due to his lack of effectiveness and his alleged lack of involvement, Benzema failed to score neither in this match, unlike Ronaldo, who scored his 18th and 19th goals in the championship from a penalty (against Benezema’s 9).

Al Nassr is second, seven points behind leader Al Hilal. For its part, and after its sixth defeat, Al Ittihad remains sixth, already 22 points off the lead.

Like Ronaldo, Sadio Mané also scored a double (75, 82) for Al Nassr, while the Moroccan Abderrazak Hamdallah did the same for Al Ittihad (14, 51).

The first penalty converted by Ronaldo (19) was committed by Benzema himself, while the second (68) resulted in the expulsion of the Brazilian Fabinho.

This match had been postponed due to Al Ittihad’s participation in the Club World Cup, in which Marcelo Gallardo’s team was eliminated in the second round.
