Adamello Ultra Trail is already racing towards the next edition, the tenth. It will take place from 20 to 22 September 2024, confirming the classic positioning between the summer and autumn seasons, with the Pontedilegno-Tonale area ready to once again host hundreds of athletes, enthusiasts and volunteers, all in love with the mountains and its challenges.
What makes the ultrarunning event between Alta Val Camonica and Alta Val di Sole unique in the world is the passage along the walkways of the Great War: the route retraces mule tracks, military roads and trenches in use between 1915 and 1918 during the White War between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, making #AUT an exciting mix of sport, nature and history.
The 2024 edition will be particularly significant, as it will represent the tenth act of an adventure born in 2014 (only in 2020 was the event canceled due to persistent bad weather). That first edition was organized when ultrarunning was still an unknown, an adventurous discipline still unknown to the general public. In 2014 the only planned distance was 175 km, there were 52 participants at the start (including three women and only one foreign athlete) and the winner was Mauro Giraudo from Cuneo in 31 hours, 27 minutes and 10 seconds. In less than a decade, Adamello Ultra Trail has been able to establish itself as one of the leading events on both the Italian and international scene, expanding the offer for runners of all ages and experiences, involving more than fifteen nations, and with a percentage of female athletes above 20%.
If the main course is in fact composed of the three distances of 170, 100 and 35 km, designed to offer the experience of mountain running to the most daring as well as to those who prefer a less extreme approach, over the years the program of collateral events that form the Adamello Series: Adamello Vertical Kilometer (in competitive, slow and junior versions), which made its successful debut in 2023, and Adamello Trail Junior, which for years has been introducing younger people to the discipline of mountain running.
“The pride in having reached the ten-year milestone is great” – began Paolo Gregorini of ASD Adamello Ultra Trail, the event’s organizing company –, “we started with just a few people and they thought we were crazy; today we are still here and we have created an event with an international scope, with hundreds of athletes and volunteers. Thanks go to all the institutions, sponsors, athletes and volunteers themselves for being with us along the way: we want the tenth edition to be a great party and we are working in this direction.”
