Footballer Tomáš Souček is enjoying one of the most successful shooting seasons in his career. On Thursday, the 28-year-old midfielder gave West Ham a 1-0 win in the 5th round of the Europa League group at the Serbian Bačka Topola, with the winning goal at the end of the game he decided the last three competitive duels of the “Hammers” and in total with the national team scored in the fifth game in a row.
“I’m enjoying this period of my life, it’s perfect,” said Souček.
His shots are also key. “It’s not like I would increase to 4-0 or 5-0. They were very important goals and most of them helped us to gain points,” praised the support of the London team.
“That’s very important to me, I’m glad I could help the team,” added Souček knowingly.
During the international break, the Czech midfielder scored for the national team in a 1-1 draw in Poland and a 3-0 victory over Moldova. In the West Ham jersey, he always decided the last three competitive duels with the winning goal.
Součka was amused by the question of the editor of the club’s television, what is the secret of the fact that he is able to assert himself, even though everyone is talking about his qualities in the penalty area.
“I can’t say that, I don’t want it to end, I would like to score in other duels as well,” laughed the Czech midfielder.
“I just want to be ready for every ball, even if someone is passing it, if someone misses it, I want to be there. I don’t want to wait in one place, I want to move in the box, be ready and hope that the ball comes to me,” he explained seriously.
“Sometimes it’s about luck, sometimes it’s my experience,” added Souček.
At the Serbian outsider’s stadium, he made his mark in the 89th minute after a cross from the right, similar to the way he did in the last round of the Premier League in a 2-1 win at Burnley.
“It was a very similar goal, only I used a different part of my right foot. A perfect cross, very similar to Saturday. I knew the ball would come there and I was ready to score,” described Souček.
“It was an important goal because the match was really difficult for us in every context. Especially before half-time, we didn’t play well enough or fast enough. We didn’t create that many chances in the second half either,” mused the captain of the Czech national team.
West Ham leads the Europa League group after five rounds. The “Hammers”, who dominated the finals of the lower European conference league last season in Prague’s Eden, need not lose at home to Freiburg in 14 days to reach the final first place.
“First of all, we wanted to advance and now we want to be first in the group. It’s good that even a point would be enough for us, but we also want to win,” promised Souček.
