A historic quadruple from Kamory Doumbia brings Brest up against Lorient in Ligue 1

Loaned to Brest by Stade de Reims in the final moments of the transfer window on September 1, Kamory Doumbia made Ligue 1 history this Wednesday, with an incredible performance against Lorient (4-0). The 20-year-old Malian, who has a strong chance of playing in the CAN next month, scored an insane quadruple in the first half.

Doumbia first opened the scoring with a powerful and sumptuous volley from the edge of the area (22nd). He was then clear-sighted to conclude with a pass from Martin Satriano (25th) and exploit a cross from Brendan Chardonnet (29th). Already historic at that moment, by signing the fastest hat-trick by a midfielder in the history of the Championship, in less than seven minutes, he added a fourth goal, taking a cross from Romain Del Castillo (45th+ 3). No player has scored four goals in the first half in L1 since Edinson Cavani in September 2016.

Buoyed by this crazy performance from Doumbia, given a standing ovation on his exit (66th), Eric Roy’s team confirmed its sparkling form (16 points taken out of 18 possible during the last six days), and ends 2023 by climbing to 4th place (31 points), two lengths from the podium.
