A court in Girona suspends a trial of protesters pending amnesty

BarcelonaA court in Girona has suspended the trial of four pro-independence activists for cutting the AVE lines in the city on the first anniversary of 1-O. The reason? The amnesty law for the Process in process, which would make the procedure and eventual convictions lapse. The trial was supposed to be held on December 12 and 13, after being suspended several times, but the defenses asked for the suspension considering that if the law is approved the whole process will come to nothing. In a decree, the lawyer of the administration of justice gives the right to the defenses and, preventively, sets a new date for the hearing, November 11 and 12 of next year.

The court therefore considers the requests of the lawyers Benet Salellas and Montserrat Vinyets, against the criterion that had been expressed by the Prosecutor’s Office. “Even though the amnesty law is not in force at the moment, it is in parliamentary processing and in its current wording includes, within its objective scope, the facts that are the subject of the present case”, explains the lawyer of the ‘administration of justice in writing, consulted by the ARA. The adjournment of the trial will allow “clarification” of the procedure and the accusation of public disorder.
