The Brazilian triathlete Luisa Baptista, present at the last Olympic Games in Beijing in 2020, and who won the Pan American Games held a year earlier in Lima, is admitted to a hospital in her country, in “delicate condition”, after suffering an accident with a motorcycle while completing a bicycle training session, as reported by the Brazilian Triathlon Confederation.

Although at first it was said that the vehicle that had hit the athlete was a car, and that she had fled, official sources stated that it had been a motorcycle, and that its driver had also been injured. The accident, whose causes are being investigated, occurred this Saturday in the municipality of Sao Carlos, in the interior of the state of Sao Paulo, as detailed by a local club.

Baptista, 29, is in serious condition after the strong impact, in the ICU of the Santa Casa de Sao Carlos hospital, with fractures in his collarbone, leg and ribs. Various clubs and federations of the international sports community have sent their best wishes for his speedy recovery. This triathlete’s track record includes the two gold medals she won at the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019. This year she participated in the event held in Santiago, between the months of October and November.
