6th Edition of Baseball Sports Exchange Held in Monte Plata, Dedicated to Denio Gonzalez

The Crier, Monte Plata .- The province of Monte Plata enjoyed this weekend, for the 6th consecutive year, a baseball sports exchange, with Dominican professional baseball players who were members of Major League teams, at the Isidro Santana Stadium (Papo) in the Monte Plata municipality.

The friendly event was organized by sports leaders Rafael Sánchez Lacen (Alexis), Rosario de la Rosa (Kilito), the Liga Premiun Academy of Baseball and Kilito Sport, who stated that the main objective is for people, especially children and young people , they can enjoy a game and see the example in those players.

This 6th version was dedicated to Monte Plata’s first Major League Baseball player, Denio González, a former Dominican infielder.

Prominent native athletes from the province and the rest of the country participated in the game.

The public showed their gratitude to the organizers of this game, stating as excellent this initiative that brings fun to the whole family and expressing that it should be carried out more during the year.

About Denio Gonzalez

Denio Mariano “Denny” González Manzueta, valuable son of the Sabana Grande de Boyá municipality, a former Dominican infielder who played in the Major League Baseball.

Denio played for five seasons at the Major League level with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians, his last season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds (Nashville Sounds) and the Boston Red Sox (Pawtucket Red Sox) in 1992.

He is the current manager of the Dominican Republic National Baseball Team and has won several awards as a manager, including “Manager of the Year” by the Santiago Sports Writers Association (ACDS). Additionally, he is the hitting coach and assistant manager of the Águilas Cibaeñas in the Dominican League.
