1. FC Kaiserslautern: Schuster’s successor – Grammozi’s new coach

Dimitrios Grammozis is the new coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern and the successor to Dirk Schuster, who was unexpectedly on leave last week. The 45-year-old will lead the first training session on the Betzenberg for the Palatinate second division football team with new assistant Sven Piepenbrock on Sunday, as the FCK announced.

Kaiserslautern did not provide any information about the duration of the contract. Grammozis played in Kaiserslautern from 2000 to 2005 after his stint at Hamburger SV. The German-Greek had to leave as head coach of FC Schalke 04 in March 2022 because the Royal Blues’ desired promotion back to the upper house was not in sight and has been without a job since then. He had previously coached SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd league.

The Lauterers suffered a 4-1 defeat at 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday evening and slipped into the lower midfield of the table after their sixth game without a win in a row. On Tuesday the team has to play in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup against second division rivals 1. FC Nürnberg (6 p.m., in the WELT sports ticker).
