Eleven competitive games, two goals, only once in the starting line-up: The 2023/24 season has been sobering for Youssoufa Moukoko at Borussia Dortmund. The 18-year-old currently only plays a very small role for coach Edin Terzic and cannot get past Niclas Füllkrug and Sebastien Haller in the attack center.
The national player has only averaged 21.8 minutes of playing time per game so far and only played in one game: in the 1-0 win in the second round of the DFB Cup against TSG Hoffenheim at the beginning of November.
Not enough for the top talent, which is also why the original enthusiasm that his Bundesliga debut sparked in the 2021/21 season has long since waned. The youngster’s development is stagnating. Speculation about Moukoko’s move has been going on for some time.

And could now receive new impetus. Because “Bild” reports: A club from the Bundesliga is said to have the top scorer on its list. Accordingly, 1. FC Cologne is very interested, coach Steffen Baumgart is said to be a big Moukoko fan – and had already pushed for a commitment last summer. Last season, Baumgart even secured the talent’s jersey after the two teams played – and returned the favor at the start of the 23/24 season with his famous hat.
Now the “Effzeh” is said to be considering a second attempt at Moukoko. However, the chance that Dortmund will let their offensive player go doesn’t seem very great. Because in January Haller is supposed to play for the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup, BVB would then need Moukoko as the first replacement behind Füllkrug. In principle, it should also be too expensive for the people of Cologne.
So it’s quite possible that Youssoufa Moukoko will have to wait even longer for more playing time.
