Wout van Aert was in Colombia last week, for the granfondo of colleague Rigoberto Uran. He also spoke to a journalist from Revista Mundo Ciclistico who asked him, among other things, what his main goal for next season will be.
“That will mainly be the Tour of Italy,” was Van Aert’s answer, without elaborating on the rest.
He thus confirms the rumors that have been circulating for a while. The 2024 Giro, with its many time trial kilometers, is tailor-made for Van Aert. It is not yet clear whether he also wants to pursue a ranking.
Participating in the Giro would mean that Van Aert may have to cut back on his spring program and that he will not participate in the Tour for the first time in 6 years. The latter gives him breathing space for another main goal: the Olympic road race in Paris.
