Women’s Champions League: Paris FC cracks against Sam Kerr and Chelsea

At Stamford Bridge, the step was too high for Paris FC against Chelsea, semi-finalist of the Champions League last season. After its exploits against Arsenal (semi-finalist) and Wolfsburg (finalist) in the qualifying rounds, the Parisian team, which is rediscovering this competition under its new name (merger with Juvisy in 2017), suffered its second defeat in two matches after that conceded against BK Häcken (1-2). Winners of Real Madrid (2-1) this Thursday, the Swedes (6 pts) therefore occupy the head of this group D ahead of Chelsea (4 pts), Real (1 pt) and Paris FC (0 pts).

Sam Kerr hurt the Parisiennes very badly. The Australian star scored a hat-trick (30th, 48th, 55th). Paris FC, which had equalized on a lobbed header from Théa Greboval in the first period (1-1, 38th) may regret the duel missed by Mathilde Bourdieu against Chelsea goalkeeper Berger, just after returning from the locker room (47th). Certainly the turning point in the match which could have cast doubt on this Chelsea team, undefeated since the start of the season.

But if the PFC continued to attack and could have reduced the score with a great action concluded by Julie Dufour for Berger’s save (78th), it was the English who gave more brilliance to their success during added time ( 4-1, 90th + 1). Sophie Ingle surprises the Parisian defense on a corner from Ève Périsset, the French international (ex-Lyon, PSG, Bordeaux) coming into play.

The score is heavy for Paris FC who had offered good resistance in the first period before cracking in ten minutes against an exceptional Sam Kerr. The next meeting in the Champions League is set for Thursday December 14 (6:45 p.m.) against Real Madrid at Charléty.
