Witan 2 Goals, Persija Defeats PSM in a Match Full of Drama

Persija Jakarta defeat PSM Makassar 3-2 in a match full of drama in Week 18 of League 1 at the Gelora BJ Habibie Stadium, Parepare, Friday (3/11) evening WIB.

Persija had a two-goal lead in this match. But PSM was able to equalize the position at 2-2 until finally Witan Sulaeman scored the winning goal for the visitors.

PSM, who played as hosts, spread a threat to Persija’s goal through Kenzo Nambu in the 16th minute. The Japanese player fired a long-range shot which Andritany Ardhiyasa was able to parry.

A few seconds later Persija counterattacked. Witan Sulaeman sent a mature pass from inside the penalty box but Hanif Sjahbandi’s shot, who was standing in a free position, still hit the goal post.

Persija finally took the lead in the 27th minute. The collaboration with Ryo Matsumura ended with Witan’s hard shot from inside the penalty box which shook PSM’s goal.

Persija kept up the pressure after winning 1-0. Hanif fired a speculative shot which was aimed at the goal but was countered by Reza Arya.

PSM had a golden opportunity to equalize in the 40th minute. Akbar Tanjung’s shot in the penalty box was towards the goal but was blocked by Muhammad Ferrari, resulting in only a corner kick.

PSM appeared more powerful in the second half. As a result, the Juku Eja team was able to equalize the score at 2-2 in just two minutes.

Defender Safrudin Tahar scored the goal that reduced the position with a header using a corner kick in the 61st minute. Two minutes later, new striker Victor Mansaray equalized the score at 2-2 with a header using a cross.

PSM even almost went ahead 3-2 over Persija in the 68th minute. Mansaray had a golden opportunity to score a brace but his shot was saved by Andritany.

Persija was finally able to regain the lead 3-2 in the 81st minute. Witan, who escaped the offside trap, calmly put the ball into Reza Arya’s goal.

PSM had a chance to equalize just five minutes later. Adilson’s shot in front of the goal still hit Persija’s goalpost.

PSM and Persija both took turns launching attacks in the remaining time of the match. However, Persija was able to maintain their lead with a score of 3-2 over PSM.

This result made Persija break the negative trend of failing to win in their last five matches to move up to ninth position in the standings with 23 points. Meanwhile PSM is stuck in 13th position with 22 points.
