“Whether I go to the Olympic Games? I don’t believe in it,” swallows Shari Bossuyt | cycling

On March 19, Shari Bossuyt tested positive for letrozole metabolite in France, the news became known at the beginning of June. The 23-year-old rider has been inactive since then.

Almost six months later, Bossuyt still has doubts. “I have no idea how the product got into my body,” she says in Sportweekend. ““Why me?”, I have often thought.”

“Sometimes I also curse that I won that stage in the Tour of Normandy. Otherwise I would not have had to go to the doping control.”

Remarkable: she tested positive for the same product as cyclo-cross rider Toon Aerts, who tested positive for urine in the same French region, also shouted his innocence, but still had to be sidelined for 2 years, even though the values were very minimal. At Bossuyt the values are even lower.

Her Canyon-SRAM team had no choice but to put Bossuyt aside. To make ends meet, she now works in a truck garage.

“In the beginning you may have some surplus, but a solution has to be found quickly. I started working part-time in the marketing department.”

A year ago it still looked so good for Shario Bossuyt. Together with Lotte Kopecky she won the World Championship team race on the track. The road to an Olympic medal was open.

Is there still a chance that Bossuyt will make it to Paris 2024? “No, I don’t believe in it,” she swallows.

And she feels bad for Kopecky. “It was a heavy blow for me and Lotte. I have no guilt, but it is also a dream of hers that is pushed aside.”
