Westerlo’s Captain Speaks Up about Recent Setbacks

“I can’t say much about it.”

After the blows in the competition, Westerlo suffered a heavy blow in the cup last night. That sometimes makes a captain silent.

“Beveren were sharper than us in the first half,” admits Lukas Van Eenoo, “but their first chance was a goal straight away. That characterizes our season. Very frustrating.”

Also something to pull your hair out on: when the visitors had an opportunity, the finishing failed.

“I scored everything in the warm-up, but in the match I narrowly scored the equalizer,” sighs Van Enoo.

Two more goals later, the Kempen team continued their dramatic start to the season.

“Of course something like that plays in your head,” says the captain. “The supporters do not deserve this. But I can assure you that we are also concerned about it.”

A feeling so dominant that it even affects the opponent. “I hope things turn out well for Westerlo, because they are a good team,” Sander Coopman van Beveren encourages.

Yet Van Eenoo does not want to give up: “A nice cup course can add color to your season, but in our situation the competition is much more important.”

“Everyone knows we’re in shit, but we have to keep believing in a way out.”

Next vital appointment: Saturday against OHL.
