Five quarterbacks up and five down after the tenth day of the 2023 regular season

The Week 10 was positive in general terms for the NFLwith one of the highest individual performances of the campaign leading all quarterbacks in Total QBR, and none of them ranking in single digits in the advanced metric of ESPN Stats & Information.

Week by week, there are several faces that repeat with some frequency on our weekly list, some at the top, some at the bottom, and others alternating between the extremes.

Of that first group of quarterbacks, the ones we see regularly in the first half of our rankings, you should start talking in the discussion for Most valuable Player.

Joshua Dobbs continued a memorable campaign, while Trevor Lawrence trended downward in Week 10.ESPN

FIVE ON THE RISE

Don’t look now, but Prescott is not in the discussion among the best quarterbacks in the NFL at this point in the season, like it or not. His critics must have a heart attack. Not only was Prescott the only passer in the league to surpass 90 Total QBR points on the day, but he also achieved the highest individual rating so far this year for a game, a 97.2. He completed 26 of 35 passes for 404 yards with one touchdown and one interception, and scored once on the ground. No one threw for more yards in Week 10, no one threw for a higher completion rate over expectation than his 14.0 percent, and no one threw for a higher average yards per pass attempt than his 11.5. Additionally, his 74.3 percent completion rate was the third-best all-time, and he ranked fifth with just 8.6 percent of his completions being inaccurate. He was not captured in the afternoon, before giving up minutes to his backup, Cooper Rush.

For the sixth time this season, Dobbs appears on our weekly list, including a fourth time among the best with two among the worst of the day. Not bad for a player who has been traded twice since the preseason to date. The now Vikes quarterback connected on 23 of 34 pass attempts for 268 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions, and a rushing score to go along with his eight carries for 44 yards. That left Dobbs with the second-best Total QBR in the NFL, an 88.3, plus he led the league with just 6.3 percent of his throws being inaccurate. Dobbs ranked fifth in completion rate at 1.7 percent, seventh in completion percentage at 67.6 percent, and 10th in average yards per pass attempt at 7.9; He was sacked by the opposing defense only once.

The Niners quarterback recovered from several disappointing outings to post a Total QBR of 87.8 that ranked third best of the week, coupled with a second place in completion rate above expectation with 10.3 percent, a second first in average yards per pass attempt at 11.4, and fourth in completion rate at 73.1 percent. He was the third best on the day with only 8.0 percent of his passes being inaccurate, and eighth in production with 296 yards through the air, a product of his 26 attempts with 19 completions with three touchdowns without interceptions. He only managed to be captured twice.

The Commanders’ young shooter dazzled with three touchdown passes without interceptions in a 29-of-44 performance for 312 yards, the seventh highest total of the day, and with a rate of just 9.4 percent, he was the eighth best passer in the inaccurate shipments metric. Although he finished with a negative completion rate of -0.8 percent, it was the 10th best in the NFL; but he was unable to prevent Washington from falling dramatically in their match.

Herbert turned in one of the cleanest performances so far this season with a Total QBR of 86.3, good for fourth among quarterbacks in Week 10. He put the ball in the air 40 times, completing 27 passes for 323 yards, the sixth highest total on the day, in addition to managing to connect four scoring passes against one interception. Herbert had the eighth-best completion rate at 67.5 and the ninth-best yards per pass attempt average at 8.1. He was not captured in a duel in which he also contributed 15 rushing yards on four carries.

FIVE DOWN

The Steelers are winning, and that is the most important metric of all, but it hasn’t been thanks to their quarterback. Pickett finished the day with 14 of 23 attempts for 126 yards without touchdowns or interceptions, leaving him with only 24.4 Total QBR points, the fourth lowest mark in the league. Only three starting quarterbacks threw for fewer yards than Pickett, who was seventh worst in terms of average yards per pass attempt, a classic symptom of an offense that fails to stretch the field vertically.

Frustration with the Pats’ quarterback was obvious on the sideline from offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, and the coach is not alone. On Sunday, it was 15 of 20 for 170 yards without a touchdown with one interception, and five sacks on top for the Pro Bowl selection in his 2021 rookie campaign. He was the seventh least productive passer of the day in terms of yards through the air. , and his Total QBR of 25.9 was the fifth-lowest in the entire league.

The turnover machine that commands the Bills offense did not disappoint last Monday night, as part of a 15-of-26 outing for 177 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, plus a lost fumble . That resulted in a Total QBR of 27.1, the seventh-lowest among qualified quarterbacks for Week 10. He only managed to complete 57.7 percent of his throws, the eighth-worst rate in the NFL, and his completion rate over expectation of -11.4 was the third worst mark in the league. It’s difficult to continue running Allen for MVP with this kind of output.

The Giants’ undrafted rookie’s first starting outing happened just as projected, disastrous, against one of the most aggressive defenses in the NFL. He managed to complete 14 of 27 passes for 86 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, and had to endure five sacks. He had the second-lowest total passing yards among starters, had the second-worst completion rate in the league, at 51.9 percent, and was also the second-worst in completion rate above expectation, at -12.2. . No one did worse in the entire NFL than DeVito in average yards per pass attempt, with his 3.2, but the Giants will be forced to put themselves in their hands again for Week 11. His Total QBR of 18.0 was the second-most low in the league.

The Jags quarterback looked deeply disappointing in one of the most anticipated games on Jacksonville’s schedule, connecting on just 17 of 29 pass attempts for 185 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions, leaving him last in the NFL with a Total QBR of 15.1. His 58.6 percent completion rate was the eighth-lowest in the league for the weekend, and the defense penalized him with five sacks, plus he also suffered a fumble against the Niners.
