A beautiful story of passion for manual work and love for his city, that of Marco Cammozzo, a Venetian born in 1999. A new engineer, fresh from graduating in aerospace engineering at the University of Padua, he chose to open a small workshop in leather: MC Leather, in Cannaregio 3456, inaugurated today, Wednesday 1 November. «I found myself at a crossroads: making the most of my studies in their field or choosing to invest in a passion, and so I did» says Marco.
Equipped with great manual skills, he began what has now become his job almost by chance, building parts and accessories for his bow (in addition to having been a competitor in the Olympic bow he is also passionate about historical shooting) and from there he understood that this passion could become a profession. «I don’t regret the choice – he explains – on the contrary, the degree remains with me and I will always be able to take it out if necessary. In the meantime, I also use the knowledge I have learned to do my jobs. The knowledge of materials, but also how to work them and above all to make my creations solid and functional passes through my training, which I pour into my work, producing tailor-made hand-sewn leather items, such as straps for luxury watches, bags, purses , notebooks”.
The activity is also working well through social channels, especially with watch collectors who have shown great interest in having a particular strap for their precious objects. In this new challenge, Marco is not alone. At his side is Confartigianato San Lio, which through the “Youth Campaign”, promoted to support under 35s who want to open a business, has facilitated him in the various steps. «A fine example of those who, loving their city, have decided to stay here and open a prestigious artisan business – comments the director of the association, Lio Matteo Masat – a small Venetian history that adds a piece of life to the city artisan, fundamental for the quality of the economic fabric”.
«I am thrilled to be here today at this inauguration – comments the trade councilor Sebastiano Costalonga -. After the entry into force of the “anti-package resolution” we were able to notice an indisputable increase in the quality of the shops opened, many of which were artisanal. In particular we remember that young people are our future. Both I and the municipal administration strongly support young people who decide not to abandon ancient crafts and get involved to carry on traditions. Craftsmanship is our identity, the beating heart of Venice and being able to pass it on is one of our most important objectives.”
