Velcofin Interlocks Vicenza Suffers Fifth Defeat of the Season

The return to the field of Velcofin Interlocks Vicenza is bitter: coach Rebellato’s red and whites, after a first half played on equal terms against Futurosa Trieste, suffered the offensive streak of their opponents in the second half, being clearly outclassed (23-37 the total of the second half ) and thus suffering their fifth defeat in as many games since the start of the season.

The good performances of Belosevic (who finished with a double double, 16+10) and Assentato (19 with 3/6 from three points) were not enough: unfortunately the team’s overall shooting performance was too poor (22/66), despite the 15 offensive rebounds, and it’s not enough to have held the best team’s three-point shooting to a paltry 17%.

Futuro

The start of the match belongs entirely to Futurosa: in the first five minutes, the guests put Vicenza’s defense to sword and fire and flew to +13 in just over 6′ (6-19). Vicenza finds important contributions from the bench in this phase, thanks also to an excellent Annalisa Vitari (whose impact as a substitute today is absolutely positive): thanks also to the triple from the long player, Vicenza returns at the end of the quarter down by six points (18-24 ).

The second quarter is red and white: Velcofin makes a great effort to get back into contact, continuing to ride the good performances from the bench (Fontana closes with 5 assists and Elisa Ruffo is back on the pitch after her absence), but after a partial of 7-0 which allows them to come back to just one point behind (30-31) Vicenza lacks the momentum to complete the overtaking, which perhaps could have given an extra sprint for the second half. We go to halftime with the teams separated by just one possession (33-36).

Velcofin

The signs of a balanced second half were all there, but instead in the most important moment Trieste’s defense dominated Vicenza’s attack and the first minutes of the third quarter produced a 2-12 partial for Futurosa, who forcefully returned to the front. Velcofin tries to come back, but in some moments lacks the clarity to build in attack (20 turnovers at the end, definitely too many) and Trieste continues to score, driven by Miccoli’s consistency and by an excellent Sammartini (who closes with a double double room for 13+14).

Berici’s comeback attempts are continually frustrated by the Julian team, which in the last quarter even escapes to +21 (46-67), before in the final minutes Vicenza manages to mend the gap a bit up to -17.

Vicenza therefore suffers the fifth defeat of its season up to this point; the situation is difficult, as also highlighted by coach Rebellato’s words at the end of the match.

Velcofin, however, is called to an immediate reaction: the red and white team will now have to play seven matches in the space of 28 days, a tour de force that will be decisive in defining what Vicenza’s objectives will be this season.
