Truce between Israel and Hamas: expectation for the release of Argentine hostages

On October 7, a fierce battle began between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group. Tension escalated week by week and the Palestinians began to take hostages who were only now beginning to be released. From 7:00 a.m. local time, a truce will begin along with the release of 16 prisoners, among whom it is expected that there will be Argentines.

The truce will include a general ceasefire in both the north and the south of the Gaza StripMajed Al-Ansari told reporters in Doha, adding that several Palestinians will also be released from Israeli prisons as part of the agreement. However, conditions could vary over the hours based on how this period of peace is carried out.

It should be noted that the terrorist group has kidnapped 21 Argentine hostages, among whom is a 9-month-old baby. From the Argentine Foreign Ministry and Jewish mutual societies such as AMIA and DAIA, and the Argentine Jewish community in general, they view favorably what may be a possibility of achieving the release of Argentines who are in the power of Hamas.

In the context of the negotiations being carried out by the State of Israel, there would be 50 hostages who could be released as of Friday. From the Israeli side they assure that the truce could last longer than the initial four days, as long as they release at least 10 hostages per day. That could be the beginning of the end of this armed battle if both parties comply with what was agreed.

The statement from the Foreign Ministry

Faced with what is happening in the Gaza Strip, Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero received the ambassadors of the member countries of the Arab League accredited in the country. “Argentina positively values and looks forward to the agreement announced for a truce for a few days and thus create the conditions to release the hostages,” he noted.

Also, he thanked “Qatar and Egypt for their constructive efforts and mediation to reach this result” and recalled that our country made “numerous calls for the urgent release of all the hostages kidnapped by Hamas, among whom are Argentines” and repudiated violence in the Middle East.
