Torrejón de Ardoz Celebrates Inclusion and Community Ties Through Sports and Volunteerism

Torrejón de Ardoz has kept the flame of inclusion alive with an exciting day of sports open to the public within the framework of Disability and Volunteering Week.

This initiative, held last Tuesday on the Paseo de la Democracia (Soto Henares), has been a meeting space between sports enthusiasts, citizens and local authorities who have opted for integration and strengthening community ties. From 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in five adapted sports disciplines, such as handbike, chair basketball, sitting badminton, archery and sitting volleyball.

In addition, wheelchair tours were offered, challenging urban barriers and promoting awareness about accessibility in everyday environments. The event had the pleasant presence of the Councilor for Welfare, Education and Immigration, Rubén Martínez, and the Councilor for Sports and Mobility, José Miguel Martín Criado, who supported this noble cause.

Likewise, the day, organized in collaboration with the Also Foundation, brought together students from various educational centers such as the CEIP Antonio Machado, the IES León Felipe, the Virgen de Loreto Special Education Concerted School of ASTOR and the private Vocational Training center TAFAD Madrid, among others.

This inclusive event is part of the activities scheduled to commemorate the upcoming International Days of Functional Diversity and Volunteering, on December 3 and 5 respectively, seeking to highlight the value of volunteers and make people with disabilities visible.

Upcoming activities highlighted

Lighting of the Volunteer Tree and the Associative Tables: This event will take place tomorrow, November 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. It will include craft workshops, charity coffee, board games and a dance show.

In addition, the volunteer wish box will be installed, where the residents of Torrejón will be able to share their wishes and suggestions to improve the community.

Functional Diversity and Volunteering Week Gala: Scheduled for November 30, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the José María Rodero Municipal Theater. This exciting gala will showcase the talents of local association members and volunteers in a unique and moving performance.

It will feature theater, musical and dance performances. Admission is free, and invitations can be obtained at the theater and at the functional diversity table associations.

The mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, thanked the efforts and collaboration of the numerous collaborating entities involved in this special week, inviting all residents, organizations and interested people to join this celebration of diversity and solidarity.

“Together, we can build a more inclusive and supportive community, where each individual feels valued and respected for their uniqueness and contribution,” the mayor added.
